Estate Planning

Most people are familiar with Wills, which are a vital part of any estate planning strategy. However, Wills do not cover all of a client’s needs, and are not always the best approach to protecting your assets so that you can pass them on to your family or loved ones.

Our attorneys pay particularly close attention to our clients’ needs, goals and have our clients’ best interests at heart guiding them through the many options that are available:

  • Last Will and Testament
  • Durable Power of Attorney
  • Designation of Healthcare Surrogate
  • Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts
  • Lady Bird Deeds
  • Life Insurance Trusts
  • Family Limited Partnerships
  • Special Needs Trusts

We help families ensure that their intentions are known and their wishes are carried out and also get advice on how to minimize payment of inheritance and estate taxes.

Probate

Losing a loved one is never easy, and this difficult time may be made more complicated by the estate administration process at the Probate Court.

When a person dies owning assets in his/her individual name, a court proceeding (probate) may be required to handle the estate administration. The estate administration relates to the money, assets and other property left by the deceased individual, including his/her debts and creditors.

Administering the estate refers to managing everything that falls under the umbrella of the estate, including payment of any taxes or debts, and distribution of assets to heirs and beneficiaries.

Pitfalls, mistakes and errors may occur during the probate proceeding. Mistakes only prolong the estate administration process, and they may end up costing money as well.
